HEATING & COOLING

Fireplace

If you run the fireplace, do not keep it on the whole time or the Thermostat will switch off and only the living room will heat up. The thermostat switch for the fireplace is right by the Nest and you can set it for the temperature you want the fireplace to kick on at if using the fireplace periodically. There is a switch on the side of the fireplace that must be turned on/off as well. You can also just run the Nest and control the house temperature more evenly.

The Bunkhouse Heat and AC

We have a heater in the bunkhouse. Only one heater can run or you will blow the breaker. We recommend giving the heater an hour or so to get the bunkhouse warmed up. Make sure there isn't anything in the way of the heater. The Air Conditioner is a wall mounted unit. Please make sure to turn off upon your departure or if you are not using the bunkhouse. There is a dehumidifier in the bunkhouse. Feel free to run this if it is too humid. Make sure to empty the reservoir if it is full.

DINING ROOM

Whether it be enjoying a meal in the dining room, or playing games, the Dining Room is a great gathering place. Placemats are located in the cabinet next to the dining room table. Games and puzzles are in this same cabinet. There are two extra folding chairs in the curtained closet in the entry way.

BATHROOM

Shampoo, Conditioner, Body Wash, Lotion, and Towels are provided in the bathroom. Just a note - the Loondocks is operated by a holding tank which means any water used is stored in this tank until it needs to be pumped. If possible, please try and conserve water. And, the big one, no flushing of anything down the toilet besides toilet paper and you know the other "two." Plunger next to washer.

OUTDOORS

Outdoor Games & Lake Toys: During the summer, we offer 2 paddleboards, a canoe, kayak, cornhole, bocce ball, more. There are tubs in the shed that have life jackets and games in them. Please make sure to wear a life jacket at all times when using the water sports equipment. Use the ankle tethers on the paddleboards to ensure the board stays with you if you fall off. Please return kayak and canoe to the rock area and turn over so they do not fill with water.

Return paddleboards to the area next to the shed. Please move all games back Retun poddie pords fo the ore ny to the shed. Please move ali gomes beck

Beach Towels: These are located in the laundry room above the washer/dryer.

BBQ Grill: Feel free to use the BBQ on the deck. Just make sure to turn the propane off when done, and cover it back up. We have an extra propane tank in the shed if needed. Please place the empty tank in the shed if that happens.

Lighters: If there is not a lighter in the sauna, there are a few lighters in table by the bathroom.

Outdoor Shower: This is an amazing experience in the Summer. If takes a minute or two to get hot. Please make sure to turn off when not in use. Outdoor Shower is shut off mid-October - mid-May.

SAUNA

Sauna: Takes 1-2 Hours to Get Hot - Wood available in the Sauna and Shed

  1. Clean out any excess ash from the firebox to keep the next fire burning cleanly.
  2. Open the damper 100% by propping open the flap under the stove door.
  3. Stack 3-4 medium logs along the bottom in a U-shape, higher on the sides and lower in the middle.
  4. Place paperboard or kindling on top in the middle.
  5. Light the kindling and add smaller logs (finger or thumb sized) on top.
  6. Let the fire burn down in the larger logs. This is called the "upside down fire
  7. We like to periodically check the fire to make sure it is happy and healthy.
  8. As the room is nearing desired temperature, begin to close the damper 50% then all the way. This will let the fire burn more slowly putting more heat into the stove rather than burning off through the chimney.
  9. Enjoy the heat or make it steamy by throwing some water on the rocks!

Be sure to cool down between sessions with a jump in the lake or a roll in the snow. Hydrate, rinse, and repeat! Make sure to fill the bucket in the sauna with water from the house. The hose spigots on the side of the house are winterized in October.

SMOKING

We are a Smoke-Free Home. Please no smoking in or around our home.

PARKING

No more than 3 cars can be parked at the house. Cars must be parked on each side of the garage.

MISCELLANEOUS

Sump Pump: "What's the sound?" Being so close to the lake, we have a bit of water that drains into the house. The Sump Pump keeps the area under the house dry and prevent flooding. You will hear a gushing sound on the outside of the house and a humming sound every so often. Nothing too worry about! If for some reason it seems to be running constantly, please notify us right away.

Random Switches: Loondocks is a bit older and has lots of random switches that don't really turn on anything. We are working on eliminating these, but until we do, thanks for your patience in figuring out what turns on what.

Dogs: Aw, we love dogs! There are treats and toys in the top and bottom cabinets of the coat rack in the entry way. There is a dog shammy if your furry family member goes for a swim. All we ask is that you pick up their poop and not let them go too crazy on the furniture (especially if they are wet).

TRASH & RECYCLING

We have a bulk garbage can and recycling bin up by the garage next to the stairway. The other two garbage cans are the neighbors across the street.

BREAKER BOX

If any of the outlets aren't working (especially in the kitchen), there is a breaker box located outside the cabin on the wall facing the stairs.

LAUNDRY

Two laundry machines are located in the bathroom. Detergent and other supplies are located on the shelves above.
